Mare Nostrum— ein Denkmal für die Menschlichkeit.

Nachdem bei zwei Bootsunglücken vor Lampedusa Anfang Oktober 2013 binnen weniger Tage mehr als 600 Flüchtlinge im Mittelmeer ertrunken waren, wurde die seit 2004 laufende Überwachungsoperation Constant Vigilance aufgestockt. Am 18. Oktober 2013 startete Mare Nostrum unter der Leitung des Admirals G. R.

Die Operation Mare Nostrum endete am 31. Oktober 2014. Am folgenden Tag begann die Operation Triton unter Führung der EU-Grenzagentur Frontex.

Ich habe das Mittelmeer immer geliebt. Bin dort groß geworden.

Wenn ich heute im Mittelmeer schwimme, ergreift mich fortwährend eine innere Beklemmung.
